The central bank set the official dollar/dong rate at 16,005 to the US dollar Wednesday, its highest in nearly 18 months after a strong influx of the US currency and widened trading band.
The State Bank of Vietnam widened the band to +/-1 percent of the official rate on March 10 from +/-0.75 percent, one in a series of moves aimed at tackling inflation.
On the interbank market, the dollar had eased to VND15,845/15,847 Wednesday from VND15,855 Tuesday
