Below Zero in Sapa


Nhan Dan Online - Ice was formed in Sa Pa town in the northern province of Lao Cai yesterday as the temperature there has dropped to below zero degrees Celsius. By this morning, the peaks of the Ham Rong mountain and O Quy Ho Pass were covered with ice. The whole Sa Pa town was shrouded in thick mist.
At 6am this morning, temperature in Sa Pa was at minus 1 degree Celsius. It was even lower on the peak of Ham Rong mountain and O Quy Ho Pass, which are 2,000 metres above sea level.
Ice has also been seen in other mountainous communes in Lao Cai province such as Y Ty and Ngai Thau in Bat Xat district, Pha Long and Cao Son in Muong Khuong district and Lung Phinh and Ta Cu Ty in Bac Ha district.
This is the fourth time Ice has been formed in Lao Cai this winter.
Tourists, including photographers, flocked to Sa Pa to enjoy this spectacular scene.
The low temperature in Lao Cai is forecasted to remain for several more days.
Northern provinces are suffering the longest ever cold spell in history, with the average day temperature ranging between 10-13 degree Celsius.
Starting from January 14, the ongoing cold spell is forecasted to last until February 20 as a stronger cold front is approaching.
