Kite contest set to take place in Hoi An

LookAtVietnam – An international kite competition will be held on the beach area at the Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort and Spa on May 19.

The annual one-day competition is expected to attract foreign and Vietnamese participants from provinces and cities nationwide, according to the event’s organising committee.
The winner will be awarded VND10 million (US$476), while second and third places have an award of VND5 million ($238) and VND3 million ($143), respectively.
The Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort also announced its summer promotion programme running during the kite competition. Tourists who book a four-night stay at the resort during the period between May 3 to October 31 will get one night free.

* Vinpearl to host Asian food promotion

The Da Nang-based Vinpearl Luxury restaurant will host an Asian food promotion from April 23 to 30.
During this time, the restaurant will cater daily and nightly buffets with various traditional delicacies from Viet Nam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, China and Japan.
Chef Halim from Malaysia will impress gourmets with dishes such as Nasi Briyani, Penang Laksa, Prawn Percik and Pasembur at the restaurant on Truong Sa Street, Da Nang City.

LookAtVietnam - Viet Nam and Israel once again reaffirmed their determination to develop a strong relationship as National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung met with Israeli President Shimon Peres in Ha Noi yesterday, Nov 24.

Apart from co-operating in fields agreed to on Wednesday, the two sides vowed to enhance ties between their national assemblies.

Hung called for more high-ranking assembly exchanges and for both sides to further support each other at multilateral parliamentary forums.

Earlier yesterday, the Viet Nam-Israel Business Forum took place in the presence of the Israeli President and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.

In his speech, Hai affirmed that the Vietnamese Government would always encourage and create conditions for Israeli businesses to operate in Viet Nam.

The country was impressed by Israel’s business administration capacity and technology, the deputy PM said, adding that Viet Nam and Israel could further co-operate in these fields.

President Peres said that Viet Nam and Israel could co-operate in many sectors, including agriculture and technology.

The President shared Israel’s experiences in agriculture and high technology, calling for co-operation to create mutually beneficial developmental opportunities.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Federation of Israeli Economic Organisations, and a co-operative agreement between the VCCI and the Federation of Israel Chamber of Commerce.

Two-way trade between Viet Nam and Israel exceeded US$220 million in 2010, representing a 34 per cent increase over 2008.

Viet Nam exports footwear, clothes and agricultural products to Israel and imports hi-tech equipment, chemicals and fertiliser.

Israel has provided additional credit worth $100 million to Viet Nam this year and is ranked 54th out of 93 countries and territories investing in the country, with nine projects totalling nearly $33.8 million.

Israeli companies are investing in projects in Ha Noi, Khanh Hoa Province and HCM City, with joint agricultural projects using Israeli technology in Ha Noi, Hai Phong City, Nghe An Province, Da Lat and HCM City showing good results.

Viet Nam wins Grand Prix prize at int”l circus festival

LookAtVietnam - Vietnamese circus performers achieved great success at the 2011 International Summer Circus Festival (Circuba 2011) which concluded in Havana, Cuba, on Sunday. The Power of the Arms performance by the two brothers Giang Quoc Co and Giang Quoc Nghiep won the Grand Prix prize and the Audience Award, while the Supermen Swing show bagged the bronze medal.
The audience gave a standing ovation when Co and Nghiep performed an incredible move: one man stood on his head, which was amazingly balanced on the head of the other man standing on his feet. They were supported only through their own arms gripping one another.
This was the first time in 20 years that Vietnamese artists have attended an international festival in Cuba.
Since its establishment in 1981, the annual international circus festival has drawn a large number of artists from many countries such as China, Russia, Mongolia and Spain. This year’s event attracted more than 100 artists from 14 countries.
Vu Ngoan Hop, Director of the Vietnamese Circus Federation, said that young Vietnamese artists have won such honourable prizes because of their outstanding performances. They have also helped introduce Viet Nam and its people to international friends.       Photo:Chuck Kuhn
On the occasion, Viet Nam’s ambassador to Cuba, Vu Chi Cong, held a special meeting with the circus performers to congratulate them on their success at the international competition.
