Business enmity suspected in Vietnam car bomb explosion

Explosives possibly planted by business-related adversaries went off in a Lexus car owned by a company deputy director in the northern Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh last Friday.
Le Huu Vinh said his family was shocked to hear the blast at around 4 a.m. from the garage in his house in Mong Cai town, the capital of the province bordering China.
It caused damage worth around VND100 million (US$5,000) to the body, tyres, and gas tank, he said.
Vinh, deputy director of a Chinese-owned firm based in the province, told news website VietNamNet the explosion could be related to some conflicts involving his company.
It is not known what business the company is involved in.
Vinh’s subordinates Le Van Diep and Nguyen Minh Tri had been killed in May 2009 in China by members of a Quang Ninh gang run by Nguyen Tien Phuong.
A court last year sentenced Phuong and his younger brother to death.
The police are investigating the blast.
Explosives are becoming a popular weapon in Vietnam. On June 21 two brothers in Hanoi used a hand-made explosive to threaten a gold shop. Their heist failed, but several people were injured when the bomb went off.
On May 16 an explosion occurred under similar circumstances at a gold shop in Nha Trang in central Vietnam.

Hon Khoai Island to become eco-tourism site

LookAtVietnam – The southernmost province of Ca Mau is currently planning to turn Hon Khoai Island into an eco-tourism site, using an estimated capital of over VND3 trillion.

As part of the initiative, a 20 km bridge linking the island to the mainland will be built at a cost of more than VND1 trillion, besides restaurants, hotels and entertainment centres.
Pham Thanh Tuoi, Chairman of the Ca Mau People’s Committee, said that at the moment the local authority is selecting suitable investors for the project with the aim of starting work on some items by the end of this year.
Hon Khoai is actually a group of five small islands, including Hon Sao, Hon Doi Moi, Hon Da Le and Hon Tuong.
Located southwest of Ngoc Hien District, the island is uninhabited and is completely covered with primeval forests, which are home to hundreds of rare species of fauna and flora.
