Parasailing at the best location in northern Vietnam

LookAtVietnam – Hoang Hoa district of the central province of Thanh Hoa is rated as the best place for parasailing in northern Vietnam.

June is the best time for parasailing here because this is the time for the maximal standards
 of weather and wind speed of the year.
Necessary equipment for parasailing is wind speed meter and handie-talkie.

Wind speed of 3-4m/second is safe for parasailing.

Mr. Chung, a senior parasailing athlete said that this sport requires
patience and a lot of practice.


Linh Truong Mount, in Hoang Hoa district, is considered the ideal site
for parasailing in northern Vietnam.




Going parasailing with a coach is the best way to practice this sport.

The landscape here is very nice.




A parasailing competition will be held there from June 1-3.

VietNamNet Bridge – Mrs. Mai Thi Phuong in Nga Son district, Thanh Hoa province, has buried her elder brother, Mr. Mai Van My, 62, in a hole in this man’s living room.

My was burried in his living room.

As My’s wife worked in Hanoi, Phuong used to bring food to her brother. On November 16, Phuong brought rice to My as usual. Phuong saw her brother lying on the bed so she shook to wake him up but the man did not reply.

Phuong thought that her brother was sleeping deeply so she returned home. Around nearly one hour later, she came back to My’s home and discovered that the man was dead.

The woman silently dug a hole in My’s living room, spread a blanket into the hole, put the body into the hole and buried it. After that, she covered a sedge mat over the tomb and cried. As the woman cried loudly, neighbors flocked to the house to see what happened. They had been surprised that My was dead and Phuong buried him alone.

Local police have investigated the case and examined the corpse. They did not find any sign of a criminal case and handed over the body to the family for burying again, at a local cemetery.

Earlier, the local media reported that a villa in Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province has a tomb in the living room. The tomb belongs to a woman named Tran Thi Kim Lien, a Vietnamese American. Before she died, Lien told her family to bury her in the villa, which was built by Lien and her husband.

Lien’s younger brother followed her instruction and buried the woman in the village. The brother and his family also lives in this house, together with the tomb.

Largest grotto cemetery in caves Vietnam

Discovering ‘coffin museum’

LookAtVietnam - Po Cung Grotto on Pha Hang Mountain in Thanh Hoa province is the largest grotto cemetery in Vietnam.

The grotto is 10m high, divided into three parts with two doors of 5m high. It is the cemetery for 74 ancient coffins made of tree-trunks. Most of them are quite intact.

Anthropologists explained that instead of burying dead people, some ethnic groups put dead people in caves. In Vietnam, this practice was popular during the Dong Son era.

Archaeologists discovered coffins dating back to the first century in Thailand caves and coffins from the 5th century BCE to the early 20th century in China’s caves. Coffins in the form of dug-out canoes in Po Cung grotto are the first of their kind to be discovered in Vietnam. These coffins are made of tree-trunks and they are placed on wooden brackets.  

The biggest coffins are 2.8m long, 0.48m wide and the smallest are 1.4m long and 0.28m wide. Many coffins don’t have bones inside.

Scientists observed that this grotto may be a cemetery of several big families and they still want to know how they brought the coffins into the grotto, which is located high on the mountain.

After Po Cung grotto was discovered several years ago in Quan Hoa district, officials have combined with the Institute for Archaeology to research the grotto. The provincial government aims to turn it into a tourist site.

Typhoon Parma forcast to pass south of Hanoi

Storm warnings were in effect all along Vietnam’s northern coast on the morning of October 14 as Storm #10 (also known as Typhoon Parma) churned offshore, gathering strength.

Disaster management agencies, well aware of the chaos wrought by #10’s two passes over northern Luzon (Philippines), were taking no chances. Over 20,000 fishing boats had been ordered into port and people in some low-lying areas in the provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Nam Dinh had been warned to move to higher ground, according to newspaper reports.

The typhoon, which has followed an erratic track for the past two weeks, was expected to weaken as it neared Vietnam but instead has slowed and gathered strength. The center of the storm is forecast to pass south of Hanoi during the afternoon of October 14, bringing torrential rains to all of Vietnam’s northern region.

Hai Hoa beach, Vietnam

People who like to bask in the tropical sun and frolic in warm water by day and then party all night will not want to miss Hai Hoa beach in the northern province of Thanh Hoa’s Tinh Gia town.

Heading to Thanh Hoa province, tourists will notice Nghi Son Industrial Park which is 25 kilometers from the beach. Attractions near the beach are Hon Me Island to see the lighthouse, Tinh Hai Bastion, Lach Bang Fishing Port, Ba Lang Church, Quang Trung Temple and Truong Lam Grottoes.

Famous destinations in the province include Sam Son Resort with its smooth beaches, emerald waters and view of Truong Le Mountain, the Ho Dynasty Citadel, which was built in block granite and depicts the creativity and industriousness of the working people seven centuries ago, Ba Trieu Temple, Ham Rong bridge and the 16-hectare Ben En National Park with its breathtaking hills, mountains, rivers and lake with 21 islets that resembles Ha Long Bay.

Doc Cuoc Temple, Dao Grotto and Do Mountain are other interesting destinations in the area.

Indigenous specialties such as fried codfish and shrimp make good gifts.
