Tran Thi Kim Hien, 28, and her baby daughter at the Thu Duc General Hospital in HCMC. Hien wants the hospital to hand over her other baby, saying scans had showed she was carrying twins.
Health authorities in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday ordered a doctor to be punished for misleading a pregnant woman into believing she was carrying twins while she delivered just one baby.
The order came even though Tran Thi Kim Hien and her family have rejected the conclusions and pressed for further inquiries.
The city’s Department of Health has asked the Thu Duc District General Hospital to report the punishment that it has meted out to Dr. Vu Thi Thu at the earliest, a Vietnamnet report said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the department’s Health Preventive Center organized a meeting with local leading obstetricians on the case and concluded that Thu’s poor skills had caused the mistake.
The obstetricians said all the ten scans of Hien, including those conducted by Thu at a private clinic, did not show that she carried twins.
They also said there were no clinical signs showing multiple pregnancies before her labor.

Hien, 28, under went a C-section conducted by Thu on July 15 and delivered one baby girl. After the delivery the woman and her family insisted the hospital returns her other baby.
Speaking to local media, Hien’s family said they did not accept the conclusions. They said they would file more complaints to find the truth and make all involved people responsible for the unnecessary surgery that she had to undergo.
