Vietnam defeat Mozambique in friendly match

June 25, 2012
LookAtVietnam – Despite missing numerous scoring chances, Vietnam ended a friendly clash against Mozambique with a 1-0 victory thanks to Manuel’s own goal.

Entering the game, Vietnamese players looked comfortable controlling the game, but did not threaten their opponents.
In the 12th minute, Vietnam were awarded a free kick from the left wing, near Mozambique’s penalty box, and Trong Hoang did not receive the ball from his team mate’s cross.
After 15 minutes, Mozambique players increased pressure on goalie Manh Dung with three corner kicks.
The Thai referee refused Mozambique’s goal as one of their players was whistled for his foul before the ball was lashed home.
In the 29th minute, midfielder Thanh Luong fired a shot high and wide after receiving the ball from striker Cong Vinh’s header.
Seven minutes later, striker Vinh escaped from a Mozambique defender’s marking and passed the ball to Thanh Luong who again blasted well over the cross bar.

Mozambique threatened goalie Manh Dung in the last minute of the first half, and midfielder Minh Duc succeeded in deflecting the ball away from the net.
After the intervals, coach Phan Thanh Hung substituted several positions in the hope that his players continued to dominate the game despite their smaller bodies physically.
Hung’s tactical changes paid off, with Manuel’s own goal putting Vietnam ahead in the 63rd minute.
Host players continued with the pressing tactic, but failed to curl home.
Eight minutes to go, Mai Tien Thanh missed a chance to extend Vietnam’s lead when he faced the empty net.
Thanh again failed to make use of a cross from his team mate in the extra time, ending the game 1-0 in favour of Vietnam.
