US agency funds $300,000 project on influenza prevention in Vietnam

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved a project to prevent avian and human pandemic influenza funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Vietnam News Agency reports.
The project, worth a total of US$300,000, will be carried out from May 2012 to May 2013 in four centrally governed cities – Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Can Tho, and five provinces – Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri and Lang Son.
According to the ministry’s Department of International Cooperation, the project aims to improve management quality and efficiency of the national health system, ensuring more equal access to health services for vulnerable groups.

It will strengthen knowledge administration and information sharing as well as create a favorable environment for strategic discussions on human and avian influenza.
The project will help boost  implementation of the National Coordinated Actions Programme on Avian Influenza, Pandemics Preparedness and Emerging Infectious Diseases (AIPED) in the 2011-2015 period.
