Gridlock at Hanoi’s gateways before National Day

Thousands of people flocked to coach stations like My Dinh, Gia Lam or Giap Bat on September 1 to return home during the National Day holiday, causing serious traffic jams.

People began flocking to coach stations at 4pm, September 1.

All coaches were occupied.

Pham Hung Road, which leads to My Dinh coach station, was very crowded.

On Truong Chinh Road to the Hanoi Railway Station.

Traffic jams became more serious at 6pm.

All means of transport were used.

At Phap Van bridge

Vehicles were leaving the capital.

Tips on Travel to Vietnam

It's always warm in Southeast Asia apart from high mountains, so leave the heavy clothing at home. Cotton and breathable fabrics are always better than synthetics -- although cotton does wrinkle a lot when traveling! December through April is roughly the dry season in that region, although it can still rain a little. December is a good time to go in terms of temperature -- cooler than in the humid summertime. Either way, wearing more clothing (shirt sleeves and long pants) is always more respectful towards the Asian culture, especially when visiting temples and rural areas.
