Miss Vietnam Global 2010 pageant suddenly canceled

The organizing board of Miss Vietnam Global 2010 pageant on August 18 suddenly informed contestants, who were practicing for the final night, to cancel the contest.

From the US, two Vietnamese contestants – Trang Nhung and Phan Nhu Thao – said that were very astonished about the cancellation. “I was more astonished than the moment when I received their invitation to this contest. The other contestants and I were practicing for the final night when we were informed about the cancellation. The organizing board didn’t explain their decision, just saying that there were problems associated with organizing tasks,” Nhu Thao revealed.

Thao was licenced to attend this pageant several days ago and she just went to the US two days ago. She is a model who entered the top ten of Miss Vietnam World 2007 and the top ten of the Vietnam Model Award 2008.

Just two days after going to the US, Thao was about to return to Vietnam. Thao noted she had prepared very carefully for this event.

“Like other contestants, I was very surprised. Some people cried. Everyone was sad and regretted their efforts to prepare for this pageant,” Trang Nhung explained.

Nhung will stay in the US for a week to travel and visit her friends in California and New York.

The pageant organizers announced to cancel the pageant until November 2010. Trang Nhung and Nhu Thao don’t confirm whether they will participate in this event or not.

Tips on Travel to Vietnam

It's always warm in Southeast Asia apart from high mountains, so leave the heavy clothing at home. Cotton and breathable fabrics are always better than synthetics -- although cotton does wrinkle a lot when traveling! December through April is roughly the dry season in that region, although it can still rain a little. December is a good time to go in terms of temperature -- cooler than in the humid summertime. Either way, wearing more clothing (shirt sleeves and long pants) is always more respectful towards the Asian culture, especially when visiting temples and rural areas.
