Girls of Giang Vo perform by ca tru (ceremonial singing)

Hundreds of Vietnamese and foreign visitors were impressed by a ca tru (ceremonial singing) show performed by little girls at the Giang Vo communal house on July 23 evening.

The show was organized to celebrate the 4^th birthday of the Thang Long Ca Tru Club.

The two smallest singers are Doan Thanh Hien (left), 10 and Nguyen Hue Phuong, 11.

The eldest singer is an 11th grader.

Nguyen Thuy Chi, (right), has studied ty ba (Chinese four-chord lute) in the Hanoi Conservatory of Music for 13 years, but she sings ca tru very well.

Artisan Nguyen Thi Chuc, 80, performed with her student, Pham Thi Hue. She is the founder of Thang Long Ca Tru Club.

The show attracted hundreds of people.

Tips on Travel to Vietnam

It's always warm in Southeast Asia apart from high mountains, so leave the heavy clothing at home. Cotton and breathable fabrics are always better than synthetics -- although cotton does wrinkle a lot when traveling! December through April is roughly the dry season in that region, although it can still rain a little. December is a good time to go in terms of temperature -- cooler than in the humid summertime. Either way, wearing more clothing (shirt sleeves and long pants) is always more respectful towards the Asian culture, especially when visiting temples and rural areas.
