The ministry plans to increase university education quality assessment and accreditation. It has decided that, by the end of 2010, at least 30 percent of universities will complete the self-assessment reports, while other universities must complete this work no later than 2011.

On the sidelines of the workshop, the US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Michalak told the press that education quality accreditation is one of the two most important issues that Vietnam’s education needs to pay attention to. The other issue is giving more self-control to universities.

A range of topics were discussed in teams at the workshop, including the enhancement of the development of universities in Vietnam, the building up of US style universities in Vietnam and the increasing the numbers of Vietnamese students in the US.

These three topics are also the key issues in the cooperation at Government level between the US and Vietnam in university education.

Mr Michalak said that the US advocates plans to build a US-style university in Vietnam, while offering to help recruit managers and lecturers as well as mobilize financial sources.

Also according to the ambassador, the number of Vietnamese students studying in the US has increased by 2.5 times over the last two years.
