Louvre attracts 8.5 million visitors in '09

More than 8 million people visited the Louvre Museum in Paris last year, in addition to millions more who stopped by the traveling shows of the Louvre in France and around the world.

Temporary exhibits, including shows about ancient Egypt and Venetian Renaissance masters attracted 8.5 million art lovers, the same number as 2008's record-breaking total.

Another 3.5 million visited the traveling shows, like one exhibit on 18th century European paintings in Tokyo and Japan.
