New7Wonders, the organizing board of the campaign to vote seven new world wonders declared the list of 261 nominees that enter the second round on Wednesday, including Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay, a world natural heritage site.
The Mekong River, which runs through many countries including Vietnam, also enters the second round.
The Media Director of New7Wonders, Tia Viering, said the second round will run from now to July 7, 2009 to select 77 top nominees.
The New7Wonders expert council will choose the last 21 nominees from this list for the last round from July 21, 2009 to 2011.
Among 261 sites from 222 countries entering the second round, there are many world famous landscapes like the Grand Canyon, Loch Ness Lake, Fujisan Mountain, the Amazon River, the Danube River, the Death Sea, the Kalahari Desert, and Niagara Falls.
