Public sector Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) in Kalinga Nagar steel hub in the district is facing huge losses due to frequent thefts by miscreants of neighbouring villages.
Miscreants are getting easy access to the plant site because of a huge gap in the boundary wall. Reports said properties worth over lakhs of rupees have been looted from the plant premises during last couple of years.
NINL initiated steps to bridge the gap after some miscreants armed with weapons entered the plant premises and assaulted NINL security guards on duty a couple of days back. They also took away bicycles of the plant workers, guns of the security guards and huge amount of the iron pallets from the plant premises. The gap could not be bridged as the residents of local Sarangapur village have been preventing the construction of the boundary wall on the pretext of displacement. Meanwhile, police questioned the role of security guards in thefts.
"If frequent thefts occur in the NINL plant then what are its two companies of security guards doing?" asked DS Kute, SP, Jajpur.
The company has filed only four FIRs regarding thefts in Kalinga Nagar police station regarding thefts in last four months.
"We have arrested eight persons in three cases and one case no one has been arrested as the accused are absconding, Kute added. Meanwhile, the company officials have requested the Jajpur district authorities seeking action against the thieves.
"NINL is incurring huge losses due to frequent thefts by the locals. We have been initiating steps to bridge the gap in the boundary wall time and again but the residents of Sarangapur are opposing it. Once the boundary wall is constructed, incidents of thefts will be reduced," said BK Panda, Managing Director of NINL.
