the Bollywood’s boy trapped in a man’s body. Some call him enigma, some king of hearts. He has been rated as the seventh most handsome man in the world by People’s Magazine.
Recently, Salman walked the ramp wearing a tie worth one crore. And in spite of his antipathy toward the press, the journalists can’t stop writing about his on and off camera activities. Critiques confirm that the self-destructive lover played by him in his film, ’Tere Naam’, is similar to his real life character. After 20 years in the Hindi film industry, Salman still remains a bundle of mystery to us.
Noted script writer Salim Khan’s 37-year-old eldest son began his career in 1988 with a disastrous cameo in ’Biwi Ho To Aisi’. Soon after came Sooraj Barjatya’s ’Maine Pyar Kiya’, which broke all box office records making Salman a superstar.
The hot-headed Salman signed some terrible movies in his initial days like ’Kurban’, ’Jagruti’, ’Nischay’ etc. The series of flops, however, didn’t affect his fan following. Then came ’Sajan’, ’Hum AapkeHainKaun’ and ’Judwaa’. Once again, Salman became the number one hero. ’Hum AapkeHain Kaun’ became the biggest hit of the century, immortalising Salman and Madhuri. Even today, Salman is a major crowd puller in movie theatres.
But what sets Salman apart from the rest of the Bollywood clan is his unpredictability. The press has always tried to write him off but Salman has stuck around. The media has gone berserk calling him names for his infamous activities like the black buck killing, slapping journalists, his heavy dramatic break-up with Aishwarya Rai and his subsequent road mishap and the consequent phone calls made to Vivek Oberoi. Each time, Salman chose to maintain a stoic silence, even amidst the gravest of calamities.
His supporters argue that Salman’s silence is his strength and not his weakness. Amitabh Bachchan once said, “Salman is the most misunderstood actor in the industry.” Some of his other friends in the industry like Suneil Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit echo the same sentiment.
Not many of us know that Salman is a regular contributor to the funds of Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. Not only this, he also gave his bone marrow to a little orphan girl who was fighting for her life in the hospital, knowing fully well how much pain it would cause to him.
Designer friend, Shabina Khan, informs that Salman has stopped many times on the road to help the accident victims. In fact, close friends disclose that on the fatal night of that accident at the pavement of Bandra Bakery, Salman got out of the car to take those victims to the hospital, but the violent mob forced him to get away.
Salman doesn’t do anything for publicity. In a recent interview, he said, “I am also human. I am capable of making mistakes too. But I don’t want to prove a point to anyone.” True. His destiny has proved stronger than the entire press. And contrary to what people think, he has not let the mud slinging make him bitter or aggressive. He has taken all in his stride. That’s the best way to handle it because mud slinging eventually dies a natural death. With due respect to ’Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain’, people seem to be more excited about ’Dus Ka Dum’. We all know why!
