Minh Long of Vietnam Opens New York Buyers' Showroom and U.S. Retail Website for Fine Porcelain Dinnerware and Gifts
NEW YORK, April 7, 2008 --With the opening of its buyer's gallery at 7 West 34th Street in Manhattan for the April 9-13 N.Y. Tabletop Show and a new retail website at http://www.minhlong.us, Minh Long Company, Ltd. of Vietnam has entered the $700 million dollar U.S. fine porcelain market.
As the first major Vietnamese 'brand name' company to ever enter the U.S. consumer market, Minh Long is a 38-year-old, family run company with familial ties to porcelain manufacturing for generations. Known throughout Asia and Europe, Minh Long enters the U.S. market with an extensive sales and marketing campaign for its unique blend of Vietnamese, Asian, Western, and European dinnerware designs for formal or casual dining.
Started in 1970, the $20 million operation is headed by CEO and founder Minh Ly, who employs 1,500 employees in Vietnam (http://www.minhlong.com). Distribution in the U.S. will be handled by Envision Asia of Ellington, Connecticut headed by Brian Kenny, President (http://www.envision-asia.com). Kenny and his wife Pat had sponsored Ly's future son-in-law, Ba Pho, when his family left Vietnam in 1980 and the Ly, Pho and Kenny families enjoy a close professional and personal relationship in the import business.
"Porcelain is my life's passion," Ly said. "Porcelain is an avenue for the creation of art, a way of expressing ideas. Not only did I always want to produce fine porcelain -- which is a difficult thing in itself -- but my ambition was that the porcelain contains meaning and be representative of Vietnamese culture."
International demand for Minh Long fine porcelain has been so high during the last decade, that in 2004, Ly opened a 125,000 square foot showroom outside of Ho Chi Minh City, one of the largest in the world. Ly is now expanding the Minh Long factory in Vietnam to meet American demand for fine porcelain, already popular with Vietnamese Americans traveling to Vietnam to visit relatives whose often bring back Minh Long fine porcelain as gifts for their friends and relatives in the U.S.
