The survey measured how prepared the economies are to use information and communication technology (ICT) as well as quality of infrastructure and current usage.
Denmark topped the table of 127 economies, followed for the second consecutive year by Sweden. Switzerland went up two places into third.
Singapore was the highest ranking in Southeast Asia, coming in at number 5.
Europe dominated the list with 11 of the top 20.
The big improvers included South Korea, which rose 10 places to ninth and the US, which rose three places to fourth.
“The successful experience of the Nordic countries, Singapore, the United States or Korea shows that a coherent government vision on the importance of ICT, coupled with an early focus on education and innovation, are key,” said Irene Mia, the report’s co-editor.
In its annual survey, Switzerland-based WEF considers the business and regulatory environments in the countries it covers, the readiness of individuals, businesses and government to exploit opportunities and actual usage of the latest IT and communications technology (ICT).
The survey aims to assess the impact of IT and telecoms
