The city’s tourism authority has been preparing for the HCM City Tourism Festival 2008, to run from April 18-20, aiming to promote the city’s image as a destination with travel agencies showcasing their tour packages and deals.
The festival will be held at Dam Sen Park in District 11. Themed Southern Land Meeting, the event will focus on upcoming summer tours.
In addition to the exhibition, the festival will have several cultural activities including the Southern Folk Musical Show, and a photo contest titled HCM City – the Hidden Charm.
The Southern Cuisine Fair will introduce visitors to refined, tasty dishes prepared by national high-end hotels and restaurants.
The Vietravel company, meanwhile, will offer a VND300,000 (US$18.75) discount on its Central Region’s Heritage Road tour. The company will offer a discount of 3-5% on domestic tours and $5-50 off international tours.
Since its inception in 2004, the festival has served as a time to celebrate the anniversary of the liberation of Vietnam’s southern region and the country’s national unification which occurred on April 30, 1975.
Vietnamese artefacts displayed online
Three Vietnamese museums have been chosen to display artifacts on a website established by Asemus, a network of museums in Asia and Europe.
The Viet Nam Museum of Ethnology, the National Museum of Vietnamese History and the Viet Nam Museum of Fine Arts are among the 47 international museums chosen to participate in the online educational project.
Each museum will chose 25 objects from various fields including architecture, art, literature and performing arts to display on the website. Further information is available at http://masterpieces.aemus.museum.
Package launched at Green Resort
The Green Resort in Dong Nai’s Long Thanh District has launched a special package called Be Green Your Life to celebrate its fifth birthday. The package includes two-day and one-night accommodations at the resort where visitors can enjoy sports and other activities including fishing, boat racing, and playing golf. Cost is VND600,000 (US$38) per guest.
Green Club Resort Co. Ltd., the owner of the 20 ha Green Resort, has unveiled plans to build a cable car system on 80ha at Chua Chan Mount in Ba Ria-Vung Tau’s Xuan Loc District and another green resort, which includes a golf course on 250ha in Dong Nai’s Nhon Trach District.
World’s beautiful bays eyes Lang Co
Lang Co bay in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue will soon become a member of The World’s Most Beautiful Bays club, said deputy PM Pham Gia Khiem. He made the remark while receiving the club’s Secretary General Bruno Bodard, who is on a fact-finding tour to Vietnam from March 30-April 8.
On the occasion, the National UNESCO Committee and the Thua Thien-Hue People’s Committee have launched a campaign to back Lang Co bay’s effort to join The World’s Most Beautiful Bays club, a non-governmental organisation.
Lang Co is expected to become the 30th member of the club. Vietnam already has two representatives in the club, Nha Trang and Ha Long bays.
Vinpearl builds six-star hotel in Nha Trang
Photo: www.vinpearlland.comThe Khanh Hoa-based Vinpearl Tourism and Trading Joint-stock Co has broken the ground for an additional luxury hotel in the central coastal city of Nha Trang. The new property is being built at Gravel Beach, near the existing complex of resort and amusement park on Tre Islet in Nha Trang.
Designed by a French company, the new six-star facility, which will include three luxury villas and 124 suite rooms, will cater to the increasing demand for upscale accommodation.
Display of Australian wine, food
The Australian Wine and Food Exhibition 2008 will be held on May 23-24 at the HCM City’s New World Hotel.
At least 50 premium wine labels will be featured at the exhibition which will be complemented by quality Australian food products. A gala dinner will be held on the evening of May 23 to feature sumptuous Australian cuisine. Each course will be complimented by top quality Australian wine.
The festival is open to the general public on Saturday from 12pm to 5pm. There will be a large range of different wines available for tasting and an opportunity to talk with winemakers. Some quality Australian food will also be available for sampling.
The event is part of a programme to celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam. Tickets for entry to this event will be available on May 1 at a cost of VND160,000 per adult.
