Five Indonesian men arrested for robbery racket in Ha Noi

Police investigators have arrested five Indonesians they say have confessed to having used a variety of tricks to rob Vietnamese.
The men have been identified as Andy Trisaputra, 28, Firdaus Sohar, 44; Muhammad Nur, 33, Hairul, 26, and Rudi Hamid, 27.
Police say that a search of their hotel room at 120 Hang Bong Street revealed a home made tool for picking locks; two metal files; six metal bars and pliers.
The search was made after these foreigners were spotted monitoring people leaving banks with money.
Police say the men used telephones to keep themselves informed; used home made nails to puncture the tyres of their intended victim’s motorbikes and snatched their money or bags when the latter were forced to stop.
The victims had included a man robbed of VND100 million ($6,250) that he had withdrawn from a bank.
Police say the men followed a car driven by Tran Viet Tien, 30, of Bac Giang City, about 50km north of Ha Noi, after he left the Agribank in Lang Ha Street last Thursday.
They then used a sharp-pointed steel bar to puncture the back tyre of Tien’s car when it was travelling outside the Trung Liet Ward police station in Dong Da District.
The car was carrying several people who were able to thwart the alleged robbery attempt and the would-be thieves were arrested.
Police say the men have admitted they travelled to Viet Nam to rob people.
The investigation is continuing.
