Vietnam hammers Iran in 2008 AFC Women’s Asian Cup

Vietnam’s woman football team cruised past underdog Iran 4-1 in their first game of the 2008 AFC Women’s Asian Cup at HCMC’s Thanh Long Stadium Monday.
The Vietnamese girls came out strongly in the opening exchanges, with Van Thi Thanh’s fierce shot from the right side of the penalty area drifting narrowly wide and Kim Hong’s close-range effort straight to Iranian goalie Koudaei.
The home side was rewarded a free kick from inside the six-yard box in the 20th minute when keeper Koudaei made a sloppy mistake, catching a pass from a defender.
Van Thi Thanh put the home side in front with an unstoppable strike from 10 meters.
Striker Ngoc Cham doubled the lead two minutes later, firing Ngoc Anh’s accurate pass into the back of the net.
She grabbed her second before Bui Thi Phuong made it 4-0 in the second half.
The visitors from Iran, who played fully covered, scored their consolation goal seven minutes from time when Hashemi sent the ball home from close-range.
