37.1% of Vietnamese shoppers are men

Around 8.5 million people in the four big cities of Vietnam (HCM City, Hanoi, Da Nang and Can Tho) went to supermarkets last year compared to 7.7 million in 2005 and 7.9 million in 2006, up by 5.2 %, according to a survey by a market research company, Taylor Nelson Sofres.

HCM City has the highest number of shoppers who go shopping at least once a week, 1.5 million.

The group of shoppers who favour supermarkets the most are between the ages of 15-24, accounting for 28.3%, while around 6.8% of people between the ages of 55 upwards love going shopping at supermarkets.

Notably, the percentage of men going shopping at supermarkets increased highly last year, to around 37.1%.
