HCM CITY — Where’s the next big thing in pop music?
A number of singers have jostled for fans’ attention over the past year, but few have hit it big.
A generation of singers rose to fame in the 2003 edition of the Sao Mai (Morning Star) televised Singing Contest, including Kasim Hoang Vu, Phuong Linh, My Dung, and Thai Thuy Linh, but few have struck a chord with audiences lately.
Singers like Ho Quynh Huong and Khanh Linh have had a hit song or two, only to watch their popularity quickly fade.
A few years back, My Tam was the most popular star in Viet Nam, with songs like Yeu Dai Kho (Love Naively) and Uoc Gi (Wishing), while Dam Vinh Hung enchanted them with his Binh Minh Mang Em Di (You Leave When the Dawn Comes) and Quang Dung made fans with Vi Do La Em (Because It’s You). But their recent songs have left fans cold.
