The 12-day annual Spring Flower Festival in HCM City, which came to a close last Tuesday, attracted 400,000 visitors, organisers have said.
The manager of HCM City Green Park Company, Tran Thien Hoa, said the festival venue was more spacious this year and the displays more professional and beautiful.
The organisers have announced 356 prizes for 269 artisans. The Da Lat Ornamental Plant Association got the prize for excellence for its Pinus Krempfii; artisan Cao Van Phuong of An Giang Province received a special prize in the apricot category, and Pham Quoc Anh of Lam Dong Province got a special prize in the orchids category.
Cruise ships make beeline for Da Nang
Some 1,200 visitors from mainland China and Hong Kong arrived in Da Nang aboard the SuperStar Libra cruise ship last Sunday.
They were followed the next day by 600 tourists on the Costa Allegra and a day later by 700 people aboard the Deutchland.
All of them visited several tourist sites in Da Nang, Hue and Hoi An.
The city authorities said 54 ships came to Da Nang last year with 23,655 passengers, a 74 per cent year-on-year increase. The city expects to welcome over 28,000 cruise travellers this year.
Binh Thuan hits it big with tourists
Binh Thuan Province welcomed over 38,000 visitors during Tet in the period between February 6 and 10. With its efficient services and diverse entertainment, Binh Thuan, which is 200km north-east of HCM City, welcomed over 7,000 foreign tourists, mostly Russian, German, French, and Korean, a fifth more than last year.
The local tourism authority said the number of domestic travellers rose by almost a third while hotels reported over 95 per cent occupancy.
Visitors reportedly stayed longer here than even at beach resorts in Phan Thiet and Mui Ne. Many chose to visit unexplored sites in the province like La Gi, Ham Thuan Nam, and Bac Binh.
Holidaymakers throng Nha Trang
Thousands of visitors flocked to the resort city of Nha Trang during the Lunar New Year.
Suoi Ba Hot Spring, with its thermal and mud baths, was a favourite destination. Vinpearl Land’s aquarium, home to more than 200 fish species, was also a popular choice.
On Hon Lao Island, travellers participated in traditional games, while visitors to Suoi Hoa Lan Island tried their hand at more adventurous activities like mountain climbing and diving.
Island tours set sail from Hoi An
The Quang Nam-based Waterway Transport Co-operative launched boat tours from Hoi An to Cham island for the Lunar New Year festival. The 150-seat boats were fast – they cruised at an average 40 km speed — and coped well even with force 6-7 winds.
Tra Que village readies for festival
Local and foreign tourists flocked to Tra Que, a charming little village on the outskirts of Hoi An town famous for its vegetables, for the Cau Bong festival on Wednesday, the seventh day of the Lunar New Year.
The annual festival is held to honour the local pioneers of vegetable farming, and pray for abundant crops, happiness and prosperity. Farmers also take this opportunity to introduce special vegetable varieties.
Festival goers had the chance of living and working for a day with the locals. They tried their hand at ploughing, making vegetable beds, planting seedlings, and watering them like "real" farmers.
Part of a tour organised by the Hoi An Travel Company, this has been drawing more than 1,000 foreign visitors annually and thousands of Vietnamese since 2005.
