Franklin invests in Vietnam equity firm

SAN MATEO, Calif.
Franklin Templeton Investments said Tuesday it bought a 49 percent stake in Vietnamese investment firm Vietcombank Fund Management.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Franklin Templeton, the trade name of Franklin Resources Inc., said the move expands its presence in Asia, which includes offices in China, India, Japan, Korea and Singapore.
"We see tremendous opportunity to grow our business by extending our local asset management network to Vietnam," the company said in a statement.
The Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam, Vietcom, will retain 51 percent of the investment group.
