Foreign Students stay in Vietnam fo Tet

"Foreign students stay in Vietnam for Tet
As Vietnamese students traverse the country to celebrate Tet at home with their families, many foreign students look forward to celebrating the holiday in Vietnam.
Palinya Keochanthavong, a Laotian sophomore at the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities, says happily “I have heard about Tet, but I have never experienced it.
This year, a Vietnamese classmate from Hai Duong Province has invited me to celebrate Tet in her hometown with her family, and I have accepted.”
“I will go out a lot,” says Russian student Katya Sukhina when asked about her plans to spend Tet in Vietnam.
“I like Vietnamese food. This year, I will go to HCMC with my friends,” said Sukhina, who studies at the department of Vietnamese and Vietnamese Culture for Foreigners in Hanoi.
According to the Ministry of Training and Education’s Center for Foreign Student Services, about half of its foreign students - over 200 people – will stay in Vietnam for Tet this year.
The center held a Tet party for students from Laos and Cambodia on January 29.
Even Chinese students, who have every reason to travel home and celebrate the Lunar New Year (also known in the West as “Chinese New Year”) with their families, have decided to stay in Vietnam.
Over 50 Chinese students at Vietnam National University Hanoi’s college of Foreign Languages have registered to stay for the holiday.
Dormitory leaders have said that they would visit the students on Lunar New Year’s Eve and present them with gifts.
