CNBC looks at Nike (including its Vietnam operation) - Morning Buzz - San Jose Mercury News Sports blog

Last night I reviewed a screener’s copy of “Swoosh! Inside Nike,” CNBC’s one-hour documentary that provides a rare, maybe even unprecedented, look behind the curtain of, as the script says, “what may be the most successful marketing machine in history.” It’s a good program — informative and entertaining to anyone who grew up in Nike’s world, though by no means an expose`.
But my first question concerned what wasn’t there: any mention of the company’s labor situation in Vietnam and other developing nations, which was the subject of so much controversy 10 years ago. A press release sent out last week promised a “comprehensive look” at the issue.
Darren Rovell, the sports business reporter who spearheaded the project, assured me today that the labor situation is a prominent part of the final product, which airs at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The omission from the review copy, he said, was due to a down-to-the-wire editing process.
