Beauty

Defining beauty may simply be a waist of time
by Huu Ngoc
Beauty, as defined by Kant, is what pleases "universally" though not intellectually justified. To me, there’re no fixed norms for beauty; they varies from one culture to another, and through time.
Early in the nineteenth century, Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du laid down the canon for feminine beauty: Mai cot cach (a profile with the graciousness of an apricot tree), tuyet tinh than (a complexion as pure and white as snow), khuon trang day dan (a face like the full moon), net ngai no nang (brows curved like silkworms), hoa cuoi (a smile that vies with flowers), ngoc thot (a crystal-clear voice), may thua nuoc toc (hair that outshines clouds), tuyet nhuong mau da (skin that is softer than snow).
