Man dies from silicon in his butt

LookAtVietnam - Being disparaged by his
friends for having flat buttocks, Tri, 21, bought 500 cc of liquid silicon to
inject into his buttock. The man died at a HCM City’s
hospital last weekend.

Doctors of the Trung Vuong
Hospital said the young
man was brought to hospital with a swollen buttock and he was in a coma.
“We immediately
performed a surgery to remove the silicon but a large volume of silicon had
absorbed into his blood vessels and adipose tissues so the treatment was
helpless. The patient got weaker due to respiratory failure and died,” a doctor
said.
Doctors said that
the large volume of silicon injected into the patient’s body caused lung
failure.
They warned people
to not self “upgrade” their faces, lips, busts or buttocks by silicon because
the risk of fatality is up to 50 percent.
“Making a body part
bigger is not simple as someone thought that they only need to inject silicon
into it,” a doctor said.

Vietnam's plugged-in generation: Internet boom creates 'Little Silicon Valley' -

HO CHI MINH CITY - The group of shaggy-haired Vietnamese-Americans huddle on stools over baguette sandwiches and fruit sodas at Highlands Coffee, a popular expatriate hangout.
What could pass for a Southeast Asian version of spring break is actually Vietnam 2.0. They've brought along laptops and business cards, and engage in banter that bounces between an upcoming party to the latest Facebook software iteration.
"We are trying to create a little Silicon Valley here," said Don Phan. He left Campbell a few months ago to set up his own Internet applications R&D center for his company, TechFos, which operates out of his alley-apartment. "I tell my guys they can wear flip-flops and work remotely - the things we do in Silicon Valley."
These techies are the latest wave of brainy-cool geeks to hit this developing country - the first came to set up software outsourcing companies a few years earlier. They are drawn to Vietnam's newly plugged-in generation.
Investors and Internet giants eBay, Yahoo and even Google are taking notice of Asia's latest Internet boom. Some 20 million Vietnamese are now online - up from 500,000 eight years ago. IDG Ventures predicts as many as 36 million Vietnamese will be using the Internet in less than two years. Next year, Vietnam will begin to roll out WiMax, so DSL-quality Internet experience will increasingly be available across the country

Is Vietnam the Next Silicon Valley? - Some migrating Bay Area residents seem to think so

People eyeing Internet trends in Asia always talk about what’s going on in China but China’s next door neighbor has the potential to steal some of the spotlight. Vietnam is a country where the median age is 24; with so many young people, it’s of little surprise that this is a place that wants to be connected. It has one of the highest Internet penetration rates in the world and some are saying it’s the leading area of interest for those folks who want to head to what could be the next Silicon Valley. For now the country remains a bit behind the times; however next year’s WiMax rollout and the development of Vietnamese versions of major sites like PayPal and Yahoo make Vietnam a place that is on the radar for high speed changes.
