AVG looked at the number of Internet attacks worldwide for the final week of July 2010, as well as the number of AVG installations per country. From this, AVG was able to work out the probability of an average web surfer being attacked in a specific country. The research involved taking data from 127 million AVG installations across 144 countries.
Turkey tops the least with one out of every ten computers being attacked by a virus or malware (ratio 1/10). Other countries in the top ten are Russia (1/15), Armenia (1/24), Azerbaijan (1/39), Bangladesh (1/41), Vietnam and Laos (1/42), Portual (1/43), USA (1/48), Ukraine, Pakistan (1/48).
The ten safest countries for surfing the Internet are: Sierra Leone (1/696), Nigeria (1442), Japan (1/403), Togo (1/359), Namibia (1/353), Belize (1/302), Madagascar (1/283), Mozambique (1/264), Zambia (1/262) and Slovakia. What is the ratio for Slovakia?
“This research tells us a lot about the typical behavior of web surfers worldwide. Internet users in Turkey, Russia, and some Central Asian, the Caucasus, Southeast Asian, and Indian sub-continent states show disproportionately higher rates of being attacked than the global average of 1 in 73,” said AVG spokesperson, Roger Thomson.
“Our research should also serve as a wake-up call to people going abroad. Very often you may access your files on a computer that doesn’t belong to you, or you may access a shared network - neither of which incidentally are things we would ever recommend. In those cases, we would urge that web users exercise caution, not only when it comes to going online in our top 50 risk list, but in general.”
Globally, North America is the most dangerous region (1/73), followed by Europe (1/72), Asia (1/102), Africa (1/108), and South America (1/164).

Aloe wood turns rural men into billionaires
Nine farmers from Dai Loc district, the central province of Quang Nam, have become billionaires after finding 13 kilo of aloe wood in a forest in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai.

They will earn up to 32 billion dong (US$1.68 million) from the aloe wood. Each member received over 3 billion dong and Vo Quoc Tuan, who discovered the aloe, took over 6 billion dong.
Tuan said a week ago he found a big rotten trunk of do tree inside a bushy bamboo hedge in a forest in K’Bang district, Gia Lai province. “I called eight fellow men to pull the trunk out and process it. After 30 minutes, we got a piece of aloe as big as my calf,” Tuan said.
Returning home, these men donated 150 million dong to build roads and to assist local poor people. They promised to donate another 150 million dong to build a football grounds and a public house to serve as a playground for local youth.
In early August, two old men in the central province of Phu Yen accidentally picked up aloe, but they didn’t know its value so they sold the piece of aloe at a very cheap price. The one who bought aloe from the two old men re-sold the aloe for billions of dong.
According traditional medicine experts, aloe wood is created from old do trees (Aquilaria crassma Pierre ex Lecomte). This kind of tree grows in forests in the central and central highland regions of Vietnam. Aloe wood is a rare material to process luxury perfumes, scented soaps, and incenses.
Aloe wood is also used to treat many diseases and to make jewelry. Asian people believe that if they wear aloe wood-made jewelry, they can avoid colds.

Hanoians rushing to Da Nang to purchase high grade villas, apartments
Nearly 80 percent of the customers who buy high grade villas and apartments at real estate projects in the central city of Da Nang come from Hanoi, according to Savills, a real estate service provider. Meanwhile, clients from HCM City account for 13 percent, and the other buyers are foreigners, Viet Kieu (overseas Vietnamese), and residents from other provinces and cities.
Though the real estate market in Vietnam remains gloomy, the Da Nang market remains bright. Located in the central region, the city has beautiful beaches and landscapes that offer good opportunities for investors.
According to the Da Nang Statistics Office, about 2,100 new businesses got operating licenses in 2009, an increase of 23 percent over 2008. The number of businesses established in the last five years has increased rapidly. The increasingly high investment from Viet Kieus is also an important factor that leads to high demand for business offices in the city.
In 2009, the volume of kieu hoi (overseas remittance - or money sent by Viet Kieus to their relatives in Vietnam ) to residents in Da Nang City was $94.6 million. In 2009, the city received 4,715 Viet Kieus who returned to visit their homeland.
Viet Kieus now own 57 businesses in Da Nang City , which has received a total of $500 million in investment capital. This has had a large impact on the trade and real estate market in Da Nang City , especially for leasing offices, villas, and apartments.
Recent surveys show that all the luxury villa projects are located in the areas along Da Nang ’s beaches. In the second quarter of 2010, two new villa projects were launched, including Dune Residence and Vinpearl Da Nang.
At the same time, two apartment projects were marketed, Bau Thac Gian and Vinh Trung Plaza . Now Da Nang Market has eleven apartment projects with 2,300 apartments on sale.
All the apartments at Indochina Tower and Da Nang Plaza have been sold. The apartments for sale are now mostly located in four districts, Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Ngu Hanh Son, and Son Tra.
The villa sale prices in Da Nang City are between $800 and $3900 per square meter, while the prices for apartments are between $750 and $3000 per square meter.
The most interesting characteristic of real estate in Da Nang is that sale prices do not depend so much on the area of apartments and villas, but rather on the positions and the views of the apartments and villas. Most buyers will prioritize the purchase of villas with a view of the sea, or villas near the sea.
According to Savills, the main buyers of the luxury real estate products in Da Nang are not foreigners or Viet Kieus with dollars in their pockets, but Vietnamese high-income earners. The majority of buyers are from Hanoi (80 percent) and HCM City (13 percent). Meanwhile, the other eight percent of buyers include foreigners, Viet Kieus, and residents from other provinces and cities.

Veteran photographer Pham Nho Nghia, 83, said the old photos reminded him of the tough and glorious period in the past. "The black-and-white photos have a special meaning for our generation, who have experienced many such memorable moments."
Along with old images of the capital, the exhibit is also showcasing photos of present day Ha Noi, including images of the "ceramic road" – a mosaic project to decorate the 6km cement dike which protects the city from Hong (Red) river floods, the new My Dinh residential complex and the Old Quarter's night market.
The endless vitality of this historic city has also been expressed with a photo of its first-ever mass wedding and another of young people gathered near the calligraphy stalls next to the walls of the Temple of Literature to watch the artisans display their skills during the Lunar New Year Festival.
Former VNA general director Do Phuong said he was impressed by the black-and-white photos at the exhibition, but still wished "to see more old photos that have never been published before".
Le Hong Trang, a young visitor, said the exhibition brought her a glimpse of Ha Noi as it used to be, so she was able to see the difference between the past and the present.
Opened to the public yesterday, August 23, the Ha Noi – The Heart of Country exhibition will run until next Sunday at the Exhibition House, 29 Hang Bai Street.

| Writer Nguyen Khac Phuc, the script-writer of “Thang Long – Hanoi in the Age of Ho Chi Minh” program. |
The show, named “Thang Long – Hanoi in the Age of Ho Chi Minh”, will be one of the biggest events of Hanoi’s 1000th anniversary (October 1-10).
The show will feature Hanoi’s history from the early 20th century to the present, with four stages: the early 20th century, 1945, 1946, and the current time.
The general director of this great show is composer Duc Trinh, assisted by People’s Artist Cong Nhac and People’s Artist Tran Binh.
“This is not an art show but a night for us to imagine Hanoi in horrible circumstances in the past,” said the show’s scriptwriter, writer Nguyen Khac Phuc, at a press conference in Hanoi on August 19.
Phuc said that this show is great but most of participants worked for free.
“The principle is truthfulness. We will tell people how two million people starved to death in 1945. We don’t aim to terrify people but to turn tragedy into a strength for our nation,” the writer said.

“This is not a play, but the truth. I hope that this show will touch the audience’s hearts with its truth,” he added.
Senior artist Dam Anh Thuc, who is in charge of music for the show, said that a choir of 1,000 veterans will sing the most outstanding songs about Hanoi.
“Our history has famous generals and also quiet people,” writer Phuc said. He related 13 chefs who managed to poison French soldiers in 1908 but failed and were beheaded.
“Thang Long-Hanoi was built by such people. Why don’t we glorify them?” Phuc said.
The show will open for free at 8pm, October 3 and will be aired live on Vietnam Television (VTV).
